We are looking for an energetic, fast-learning, and meticulous web designer. You will work with two types of teams. First, you will work closely with Azavea’s software development teams to design, skin and create user interfaces for our web and mobile software applications. Second, you will collaborate with the marketing staff to design marketing collateral, web landing pages, and maintain our product websites. On occasion, you will also be required to create some print design, like fliers or ads. We’d love to work with someone who can turn our thoughts into reality in designs that are friendly and inviting, yet elegant, contemporary and fresh. In a given month, you might work on:
- Design and construct web pages for Azavea’s website
- Design user interfaces and interactions for custom web and mobile applications
- Design and apply a new skin to one of Azavea’s products (Sajara, HunchLab, DecisionTree, etc.)
- Migrate or design one of Azavea’s product web sites (currently in DotNetNuke but moving to Concrete5)
- Design marketing collateral (fliers, ads, case study sheets, pamphlets, etc.)
Here’s what we’re looking for:
- Excellent knowledge of standards-based XHTML, CSS and Javascript
- Experience with a Javascript framework such as jQuery or Dojo
- Deep knowledge of Adobe graphic design software: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, (Flash desirable, but not a must)
- Familiarity with skinning a web-based content management such as Concrete5, WordPress or Drupal
- Knowledge of interface and UX design for web applications
- Clean, efficient accessible design aesthetic for web and mobile software applications
- Ability to collaborate with other designers
- Radical attention to detail
- Work autonomously as well as with a group
- 1-3 years of applicable experience
- Interested in geography, maps, data and visualization
- Interested in technology, the web, and geeky projects
- Strong organization and time management skills
