Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Manager

Position Summary

We are looking for a Search Manager to work closely with our SEO specialists and clients' web development team in the optimization of our clients' digital content. This position requires more than just an SEO expert: Our ideal candidate will also possess a strong understanding of paid search and digital media, and understands how to integrate natural search into broader media strategies to deliver against our clients' business goals.

Specific Responsibilities

The Search Manager will be accountable for working with client web development teams to implement search engine optimization recommendations including, but not limited to:

  • Keyword phrase audit and strategy
  • Technical development and testing of search engine algorithms that drive and optimize Internet traffic.
  • Creation of metadata
  • Create Custom 404 error pages
  • Navigation analysis
  • Link Analysis including broken links, redirects, cross linking
  • Identify IP issues
  • Identify duplicate content
  • Identify URL structure problems and perform URL rewrites
  • Create XML Sitemaps
  • Resolve issues with visibility problems stemming from coding such as JavaScript, Flash, CSS
  • This person will also help establish SMG Search SEO best practices and educate our clients' web development teams

The People

This individual will be working across multiple clients supporting an internal team of dedicated SEO strategists. The strategists will look to the Search Manager as the internal expert for all programming, coding and other technical optimization skills.

The Client

The Search Manager will work daily with client web development teams and agencies to ensure flawless execution of natural search strategies, and be looked to as their unquestioned resource for technical SEO expertise.

Required Skills, Experience and Education

  • 2+ years of Search and/or Digital media experience
  • In-depth knowledge of SEO practices and concepts and knowledge of statistics, algorithms
  • Previous experience with a computer programming language a plus
  • Strong scripting and database skills, including
  • JavaScript, MySQL
  • Link and Navigation Analysis
  • Search-friendly URL strategies
  • Code revisions (Flash & Javascript workarounds, basic HTML programming)
  • Knowledge of syndicated research tools such as ComScore, Hitwise, AdGooroo and WordTracker
  • Knowledge of SEO tools such as Web Position Gold
  • Knowledge of Web Analytics tools such as Google Analytics, Omniture and CoreMetrix
  • Technical proficiency, particularly with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Strong quantitative skills, including analytical abilities and math proficiency
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem solving abilities
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills
  • Presentations skills are a must
  • Ability to work successfully with teams on multiple projects under tight deadlines
  • Desire to work in an industry which is constantly evolving and presenting new and unique challenges
