UX/UI Interaction Designer

Working under the direction of the Head of User Experience, and across internal departments, the interaction designer will design new or improved online features and ensure consistency across Nature.com’s multiple online properties. The interaction designer should have a passion for science, and be knowledgeable about the way professional scientists use information.

Responsibilities:

  • Help to define a clear consistent user experience/interface for new and existing Nature.com products and features.
  • Create user-centric, functional, visual and interactive designs and documents
    Specifically: site maps, user flows, wireframes, page layouts, prototypes and UI specifications
  • Translate use cases and business requirements into functional specifications
  • Ensure work is completed to meet industry best practices, to specification and on time.
  • Ensure that all work follow NPG’s user experience and branding guidelines
  • Ensure consistency across designs, navigation and site architecture

Lateral relationships. The Interactive Designer will need to work with colleagues across most departments within the company including Nature.com, Online Publishing Operations, Web Production, Marketing, Studio, Classified, Print, Editorial, Publishing and third parties where required (both in the UK and US).

Skills and Experience:

  • 2-4 years’ experience working in UI or UX Design.
  • Experience creating design specifications and wireframes to meet needs of business partners.
  • Experience in web analytics, user testing and usability analysis.
  • Some experience in graphic production and/or creative design experience.
  • Experience working with large teams of designers and developers.
  • Excellent knowledge of HTML, and CSS, an understanding of JavaScript and XML.
  • Excellent understanding of interface design, layout and typography for the web.
