A full-time Professor at Fanshawe College is responsible for providing academic leadership and for developing an effective learning environment for students. The successful candidate will be prepared to teach a wide range of media courses from introductory to advanced and be familiar with supporting senior level research projects. Candidates must be committed to teaching and mentoring students by engaging students in experiential education opportunities. The ideal candidate for this position will present a skill set that would allow teaching assignments at all levels of the Multimedia Design and Production Program, with an emphasis in Web Technologies at an introductory and intermediate level. The ideal candidate should also possess a broad range of skills that includes graphic/interface design and motion graphics.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

* Strong interpersonal skills
* Ability to relate effectively to a wide variety of learners
* Strong computer skills and familiarity with educational technologies are required
* Previous college teaching experience and knowledge of curriculum design and student evaluations are assets

SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS
* College diploma or University degree in Web/Multimedia Development or a related field (post graduate education and/or additional training with digital technology are assets)
* Current XHTML and CSS practices for website layout and applications development
* Expertise in Javascript for constructing client-side functionality for XHTML sites
* Knowledge of XML data structures and how they are applied in web applications
* Experience in service-side web scripting and database management systems, with a specific emphasis on open source technologies (PHP-mySQL)
* Demonstrated ability to work well in a team
* A history of skills to research and assess new technology and gear
* Ability to work closely with local community partners and/or business to provide practical projects for students and to organize and participate in extracurricular projects (such as field trips, seminars, professional associations, events and conferences, etc.)
* Ability to develop community partnerships and to work with the Chair and Dean to advance the School of Contemporary Media as a centre of excellence in Contemporary Media

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Experience in Flash authoring with a working knowledge of Actionscript 3.0
* Design/layout experience (Photoshop and Illustrator CS3-CS4)
* Minimum 2 years of College level teaching experience with positive student feedback

Approximate Start Date: August 17, 2009

Salary: Determination of starting salaries is based on relevant teaching/occupational experience and relevant formal qualifications, supported with original transcripts from granting institutions. The salary scale is $55,683 to $96,529 along with a comprehensive benefit package.
